CANON: Touken Ranbu

CANON HISTORY: Canon Wiki, Character Wiki, Sword History One, Sword History Two, and Anime Wiki

Some key example moments that Jirou is sure to recall might include:
- His creation by the swordsmith Chiyotsuru
- Fighting alongside Taroutachi in the battle against Nobunaga where their masters fell in battle
- Being taken to a shrine where he was given sake as an offering due to the fact that he as viewed as a sword of the heavens
- The saniwa giving him his new human form
- Being able to spend quality time with Taroutachi in their human forms
- Getting to be taken out on sorties and expeditions and so on
- Drinking with the other swords
- The blossoming of the cherry tree
- The incident where they ran out of sake and several trips to the market let to Jirou having to go get the sake himself
- Making sushi while drunk late at night

CANON PERSONALITY: Upon meeting Jiroutachi one would get the impression that he is a very cheerful drunk. Honestly, that really isn't an inaccurate summation of his character. He is vastly cheerful and carefree, his biggest concern in life seeming to be whether he will remain toasted or not. In fact, he seems to want the enemy and all those around him to be so aware of the fact that he is a drunk and enjoys it when others view him that way. After all, who would expect a deadly warrior from someone who is off giggling from how much sake they've consumed?

And boy does he enjoy that sake too. When one listens to his lines for the game, one will notice that more than half express his desire for a drink or to offer a drink or to fetch a drink or to have someone bring him a drink. He is even known for carrying a large jug of sake around with him when he can and his very symbol as a sword has a sake jug within it. There can be no doubt that when it comes to alcohol and sake consumption that he is quite the champion.

However, he does not keep this joy to himself. One line he speaks is “You drink some too, I'll pour it for you.” Though he could just enjoy the alcohol on his own he is quite the social sword and does very much enjoy spreading that around. There is little doubt that he prefers drinking buddies and can likely be found with them more often than not. Especially since he has the belief that doing chores might sober him up which is not something he ever wants to be. Being drunk is far more entertaining than being so serious and calm all the time! At least that's his opinion.

What should be noted here though is that he doesn't seem to mind if someone doesn't want to be drunk with him. Not once does he seem to show a sign of being bothered by others possibly choosing to abstain. He is more than happy to get wasted on his own without others to join him too. Sure he might complain for a second about a lack of enthusiasm but he'll be over it in a heartbeat. Perhaps the best example of a serious person that he doesn't seem to mind the serious nature of is Taroutachi, his brother.

The first important thing to observe here is that these two swords were forged by different swordsmiths. For that reason it might become clear why he calls him “aniki” like someone younger in an organization looking up to an older person as a brother. But look up to him he does. In more ways than one really. Not only is his brother taller than him (as Jiroutachi will happily point out to you) but he is an impressive figure on his own. He can be found mentioning his brother on more than one occasion, usually to inform you that while he is a big sword himself, his brother is even bigger! There definitely seems to be an affection for him and they are seen talking together in a recollection about what Taroutachi's place is in this world now.

Now, both brothers were created to be divine objects difficult to wield because of their sizes. Unlike his brother though, he prefers to focus his thoughts on enjoying himself rather than how divine he is. All the same, he does seem to enjoy dressing himself up in a way to show how special he is. He is a very flashy sword to be sure, drawn toward prints and silks as well as fancy hair ornaments. Perhaps he isn't necessarily vain but he certainly takes care of his appearance to keep himself looking beautiful.

But one should not underestimate Jiroutachi simply because he's a drunk and pretty and delicate looking despite his height. He is dangerous on the battlefield and a talented fighter. That reach of his makes him able to reach far out and even hit with wide arches if he has a sword in his hand. More than that, if he becomes sobered up by a fight then he can become angry to lose that tipsy feeling and will become more vicious and deadly than ever on the battlefield. Not only that but his ability to have people overlook him for being so drunk means that he has an element of surprise when he attacks because others do not expect him to be able to attack at all. This makes him a very deadly opponent.

In other words, he is far more intelligent than he seems. He wants others to overlook him and celebrates it by enjoying himself with all the alcohol in his system. Plus he actually has quite a good memory. He might talk cutely and giggle and such but there is quite the mind under that haze of sake. He remembers past battles he's been in and even remembers the thoughts of his brother as well in those times. Basically, one shouldn't ever underestimate the drunk man giggling in the corner because one never knows just what he might be observing at that time.

In short, Jiroutachi is just as deadly as any of the swords but masks it easily by dancing away in a boozy state. Which he happens to love every second of and even mourns the loss of alcohol in his system. Being sober is definitely not one of his favorite states of being. If he could find a way to be drunk one hundred percent of the time it's very likely that he would jump at the opportunity. And better still if he can have some friends joining him for those drinks of sake! Drinking is fun alone sure but drinking with company is great!

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Like the other swords in the game, Jiroutachi is a Tsukumogami meaning he is an object that has existed long enough to have gained a soul of his own. This makes him sturdier than the average human and also means that he requires repairing should he become damaged. It also means that should he be broken then he is destroyed and cannot be saved just like that of an actual sword. He is a bigger than your average oodachi sword (by a lot) and his body shows this with great height.

He wields a representation of himself and has skill in combat in order to fight the evils of his world. His attack is shown to be the second highest of the current swords in the game and his defense the highest. However, he has the some of the worst agility of all the swords but at least he also has one of the highest lifespans of them so he can last even though he's slow. His range has the chance of killing up to three enemies at once with a single strike of his blade which is good because he's weaker than his fellow oodachi when it comes to landing a critical strike. Like the other oodachi, he's only so so when it comes to being able to scout or keep his stats hidden from the enemy. Likely due to how huge his sword is.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Jirou Hirata
AU AGE: 25
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: Jirou is the same as his canon self. He's 6'3” and pretty and quite drunk pretty much all the time. After all, he's just constantly drinking! So aside from being fully human, he will at least get to still be his usual drunk self. He will have dark eyes rather than gold though. Also a little more slender since he wouldn't see a reason work out to make himself have more muscle like his canon self.

AU HISTORY: Jirou was born June 1st to a wealthy family (father named Atsushi Hirata and mother named Mina Hirata) and lived quite the privileged life. He was given basically anything he could want and praised for being so very beautiful. In truth he was a treasured child and one could have described him as walking on water in the eyes of his family. Some of this obviously got to his head as he grew up since he became rather used to things just happening but that was something to be talked about another time. For now, the rest of his history.

Growing up, he had a childhood friend that everyone called his brother. The two of them grew up doing everything together. School, parties, etc. Jirou was very fond of him and liked to call him his older brother a lot and would happily tell others about him. How he was bigger and wonderful and oh had you heard about his older brother yet? It was no wonder everyone mistook them for brothers but neither of them really cared as they even went through college together.

After college he went to live on his own and found the joy of alcohol once he was old enough to drink. From then on he was the party boy and always drinking. One never saw Jirou without him having alcohol too but aside from the smell they didn't mind since he was always happier that way. Besides, it wasn't like he was causing trouble like many other drunks might. If anything it almost made him more entertaining to be around.

It was around this time that he discovered the drag scene. Now, he'd always been one to dress however he pleased whether that be in men or women's clothes. Honestly he looked good in all of it and even had a love for makeup. So when he found out he could be paid for dressing up that settled things for him. It was true he was still getting money from home on a regular basis but now he had something else to help fund his alcohol funds! Taking on the name of Juri, he began to do performances which also meant he could have drinks on stage as well. Most of his shows were eighteen plus (mainly because there's sexual humor and alcohol around) but he certainly had fans due to his cheerful nature and the fact that he was very convincing in his role.

Which was now how he spent his days in Recolle, loving to spend time as either Jirou or Juri depending on what mood he was in. Whichever it was he was definitely going to be found drinking! That was for sure! Probably a good thing his parents still believed he walked on water and were willing to let him do as he pleased. Even his good friend (who lived next door in the apartment to the point of them basically sharing a place) wasn't about to put an end to his antics. What understanding loved ones.

Now and then one could find him doing odd jobs like modeling gigs or the like for fun when he wasn't at some bar or club as well. You know, gotta let others appreciate that he was a beautiful person!

AU PERSONALITY: Jirou is very like his canon persona. He's cheerful and affectionate and silly. More than that, he's drunk the vast majority of the time. When he's not actually drunk, it's just because he's in the process of becoming so. He usually has something on him somewhere and will not turn down a drink from someone but definitely has a preference for rice wines. Honestly he's just rather exuberant and there to have a good time.

Because of how he's been raised he is a little bit spoiled though. Though he will work to do things (likely with a bit of whining involved), he often forgets that it takes work to get things. There's a sort of innocence about it though that comes from someone of such privilege. Even with the whining he is willing to do the work necessary, after all. It's just a shock that it's expected like that!

Another way he's like his counterpart is that he is aware of how beautiful he is and isn't shy about that. Also he is willing to tell you this but then in the next breath tell you how amazing his brother is. (Obviously this brother is modeled after Taroutachi but since this character is currently not in the game he will not have a name.) For as much as he knows things like how beautiful he is, he is very sure of the fact that his greatest friend is the most wonderful thing in the whole universe. Obviously everyone else should be aware of this fact too. Anyway, it's easy enough to see how beautiful he is with how he presents his appearance as Jirou or Juri. Even when he's being creative with the look!

Now, one should be aware that just because he's drunk and silly hardly means he's an idiot. Even his background of being spoiled doesn't imply he lacks intelligence. When applying himself, he has quite a bit of knowledge under his belt. And when he's sober he really can be quite the force to be reckoned with. Largely because he wants things to get done now since he's not in a good mood while sobered up and would like to be drunk again thank you.

Jirou is also known for being quite unique to be around. Sure he's a drunk that is fun to party with because you're always sure to have a good time when he's around but most he just has a rather free view of the world. He doesn't particularly care about your background or anything and honestly would rather encourage you to have a good time with him. Not that he's going to be encouraging underage drinking mind you. Nope. There are other ways for kids to have good times and he's down for those too. The key to happiness is to not let the terrible things get you down and not to judge people for every little thing.

Basically he's that sort of drunk friend/family member that people sigh about for how much he drinks but can't help having affection for. It helps that pretty much nothing save for taking away his alcohol gets him down. It certainly makes it easier for people to be his friend!

SAMPLE

There was some giggling from the other partially done up Queens over the fact that Jirou was arriving late again. It was so like him but his flirtatious wink to the owner of the club allowed him to get away with it as well as a promise of a drink on him. Of course he'd forgotten the fact that the owner could pay for his own drinks so offering that sort of thing was pointless. Really it was endearing how he was trying to be sweet and he meant well in the end.

Jirou for his part did get to work right away with getting his make up done so he could transform into Juri. Not much tonight though. He wanted this to be a sort of classy and timeless look. It was one of his favorite parts really, the creativity behind the look. It helped that he had a face that could do anything really, something the other girls were jealous of but that he laughed about before pointing out tips for their makeup. Just because he was beautiful didn't mean others couldn't be too! Certainly they'd never compare to his older brother but even he couldn't do that.

A drink was placed before him and his face lit up. “Thank yoooou!”

Lifting the cocktail to his lips, he had a long sip before letting out a sigh. Naturally he was drunk already but that wonderful light feeling that came from extra always brought a special sort of smile to his face. Some people found themselves jealous of the fact that he could drink so much and not get a hangover the next day but genetics had just blessed him. What else was there to day about it?

Juri was really coming to life now as he finished up his glass and makeup at the same time then pinned his hair up artfully with little twists and hair ornaments. He was going for a geisha look this time, taking advantage of his Japanese heritage. If he remembered right his grandparents on both sides had been Japanese. Well that worked for him now because it gave him the look he wanted as he went to go step into his kimono next, grabbing another drink on the way towards the stage.

“Ah Juri what are you doing tonight?” he heard someone call.

Smiling over his shoulder, he gave a giggle. “I don't know! But as long as everyone has a good time it'll be okay!”

He waved a hand then poked his head out real quick. There was his dearest friend in the world having a drink at the bar and waiting to watch him. Yes, tonight was going to be perfect.

With that he stepped out onto the stage to begin his act...
